Our Mt. Fuji Food tour takes place in the lovely town of Fujinomiya, just at the base of the most famous mountain in Japan. With deep clear mountain spring water- Fujinomiya is a great place for delicious food, sake, soba noodles and green tea. Get off the beaten track of the Tokyo-Kyoto corridor and discover true local furusato (home town) spirit. Fujinomiya is an easy day trip from Tokyo (or an overnight visit that will give you more time to explore!) The brand new Mt Fuji World Heritage Cultural Center is our starting point to explore this special place. Hop on the super fast Shinkansen (bullet train) and discover this hidden gem! This tour features 6 specialty food stops including a hands-on sweets making experience and a traditional set lunch.
Fujinomiya has long been a well-known Japanese travel destination as this town is at the base of one of the famous assent routes of Mt. Fuji, the most accessible route. Many mountain climbers begin their adventure at the famous shrine in the center of town. Come find out more with us. Bring back flavorful memories of something few foreign tourists have a chance to experience.
During the tour, we will enjoy snacks at the yummy “Omiya Yokocho” (local food and drinking alley). You can try a healthy “soul food” called Oden, here– prepared in a regional style. We will have a wonderful local lunch at a shop that has been making soba and tempura specialities for over 80 years. We will find out more about the heart of this town at Fujisan Sengen Shrine. After lunch and exploring, will learn how to make Japanese traditional Wagashi (sweets) and eat our beautiful creations at a local tea shop. We will have a chance to stroll around town and get a feeling for the real hospitality of Japan.
If you have a JR rail pass you can include this trip for no additional expense on your travels, and if you need help or do not have the JR pass, when booking this tour- our team will do our best to advise you of the best way to arrive in Fujinomiya.
