Experience November Kabuki
November also has an important place in Tokyo’s traditional performing arts calendar. The November Kabuki Program runs from November 1st through November 25th, 2026, with no performances on November 9th and 17th. November programs are historically associated with Kaomise, or the “face showing” season. This tradition dates back to the 17th century, when theaters would introduce their newly contracted line up of actors for the coming theatrical year.
The entire November 2026 program is dedicated to Kanadehon Chushingura (The Treasury of Loyal Retainers), a monumental three act historical masterpiece accompanied by traditional Gidayu narrative music. For visitors interested in experiencing a traditional Japanese art form, a November kabuki performance offers a way to connect with the theatrical tradition that has been part of Japan’s cultural history for centuries.
