Japanoninsta is an Instagram account that shares stunning content of Japan from all over the country. The account has over 1 million followers and is known for its high-quality photos and creative captions. The founder of Japanoninsta, who wishes to remain anonymous, is a passionate photographer who loves to travel to Japan and capture the beauty of the country. In this interview, we will talk with him about his inspiration for creating Japanoninsta, his favourite places to photograph in Japan, and their tips for aspiring photographers.
Hi! Can you please introduce yourself?
Hello! I am a mysterious individual who creates content on SNS mainly about Japan. And I’m known for hiding my identity through a Fox mask. So for now you can call me ‘‘Fox’’.
When and why did you start the account Japanoninsta? Are you active on other social media channels or maybe a website?
I started Japanoninsta in 2019, literally on my living room couch. But the reason I started Japanoninsta was because one of my favourite hobbies is photography. I used to post them on my personal account and since many people seem to like them I decided to make an account where people could enjoy the beauty of Japan. Then after Tiktok gained popularity I decided to give videos a try and to my surprise they were very well received by my followers. Now you can find my content in all of the existing SNS, but I mainly focus on Tiktok, Instagram and Youtube.
I’m a big fan of your work on Instagram, and I’m curious to know more about your background. Is Japanoninsta your full-time job, or do you have another occupation?
Thank you. I am glad to hear that! Japanoninsta is currently my main full time job. But I also do other jobs like running the Yokai Factory, making videos for companies and social media consulting for people and companies who want to grow on social media.
Do you work independently or do you have a team for research work and videography, as your posts are really informative and catchy?
When it comes to content creation I work independently on video ideas, scripting, acting, etc. But occasionally my friends do give me ideas and help me film the scenes that I am in.
I am curious to know why you decided to remain anonymous and why did you pick a fox mask as your signature? Will we get to meet the real person behind the mask at some point?
I was chosen by Inari, a Japanese goddess of many things like; general prosperity, worldly success and most importantly… foxes. And as you may know she uses us foxes as messengers. If you’re talking about a face reveal I haven’t really thought about it. Maybe one day…
What are some of the most interesting things you’ve learned about Japanese culture?
What interests me the most is that every day I get to meet new people and I hear their own stories. An owner of a Dango shop that has been passed down for 400 years, the most charismatic omelette rice chef, there are just so many stories across Japan but they all share one thing in common which is that they are all very passionate in what they do and that part of the culture will never stop amazing me.
What is your favourite Japanese food you would recommend any traveller to try during their trip?
My favourite food is Sashimi, which is basically sushi without the rice but if you can’t eat raw fish you need to try my favourite food from Osaka.
It’s called takoyaki and if you’re ever in Osaka you need to visit my favourite Takoyaki store. It’s in America mura just next to a convenience store. Order the Salt and black pepper Takoyaki and I’ll promise you that you won’t regret it!
In the end, do you want to share anything else with our readers or give some advice to aspiring photographers?
My advice to anyone that wants to get into content creation is don’t care about what anyone thinks and just do the things you love. And if you’re planning to visit Japan I hope that my videos help you during your trip!
Thank you so much for taking out your precious time for us and answering the questions! We really appreciate your insights and we are glad you joined us for this interview.
